Why Sydonie Mansion stole our hearts
Romantic Outdoor Wedding
A beautiful outdoor January wedding at Sydonie Mansion in Mount Dora, Florida. I want to share the love story of Kyla and Josh, captured among the historic architecture, oak trees, and lakeside views of this iconic venue.
Kyla & Josh
Returning to Sydonie Mansion for a Love Story
There are some places that stay with you long after you’ve left — and for me, Sydonie Mansion is one of them. I first met Kyla and Josh here months before their wedding for their engagement session, and we instantly connected. We wandered the grounds together, discovering warm pockets of light, hidden garden paths, and quiet corners that felt like they were made just for them.
So coming back for their wedding felt like revisiting a chapter we had already started writing together. I knew the way they moved together, the way their laughter echoed through the courtyard, and exactly which places made their love shine.
A Beautiful First Look & Private Vows
Before the ceremony, Kyla and Josh chose to share a private moment — just the two of them — in the beautiful courtyard. They did a first look, and it was one of the sweetest parts of the entire day. As soon as Josh turned around, you could see the emotion hit him. All the nerves, all the anticipation — gone. It was just joy, relief, and pure love.
Right after their first look, they shared private vows. With no one else around, just the quiet breeze and the soft sounds of nature, their promises felt incredibly intimate and meaningful. I stepped back and gave them space, allowing them to slow down and be fully present with each other before the day unfolded.
Moments like these are why I adore when couples choose a first look. It sets the tone for the rest of the day — grounded, connected, and centered on what truly matters.
Why Sydonie Mansion Is a Wedding Dream
Sydonie Mansion is one of those venues that seems to transform with every step you take. Built in 1883 and restored with so much love, the mansion brings Mediterranean charm to the heart of Florida — think terracotta tones, vine-covered walls, archways, gardens, and a lakeside boathouse that looks straight out of a movie.
Some of my favorite things about Sydonie Mansion:
• So many backdrops — the courtyard, the oak-lined paths, the covered walkways, the boathouse, the gardens… truly endless variety.
• Soft, flattering natural light almost all day long.
• Historic charm that makes every photo feel timeless.
• An intimate, calm atmosphere despite being such a large estate.
A Perfect January Day in Mount Dora
January weddings in Florida can go in any direction — but Kyla and Josh had the kind of weather photographers dream about. The day was warm, sunny, and full of soft light from morning to evening. Everything was outdoors, which made the whole celebration feel relaxed, airy, and full of natural beauty.
Their ceremony took place on the lawn, with the lake shimmering behind them and giant mossy oaks framing the view. Family and friends gathered close, and the breeze moved just enough to make the moment feel alive.
Portraits Full of Emotion, Light, and Connection
After the ceremony, we wandered again — just like we did months earlier. We visited the courtyard, the walkway lined with grand arches, the lakeside area, and of course the iconic boathouse. The January sun created the softest glow, wrapping them in warmth without being harsh. Kyla’s smile, Josh’s way of looking at her, the way their hands found each other without even thinking — these are the moments that make me love this job so much.
As the sun started dipping, the entire estate turned golden. It was peaceful, quiet, and so romantic — the kind of atmosphere that makes you slow down and soak it all in.
Their reception continued outdoors, creating a cozy, intimate evening surrounded by twinkle lights, laughter, and heartfelt toasts. The mansion lit up behind them, almost glowing, like it was celebrating alongside them.
Kyla & Josh — Thank You
From your engagement session to your wedding day, it has been such an honor to document your story. There’s something so special about capturing two people who are gentle, joyful, and so connected — and doing it at a place as magical as Sydonie Mansion only made it better.
Thank you for trusting me with these memories. Thank you for letting me wander, create, and capture the quiet moments that matter most.
And thank you for bringing me back to one of the most beautiful venues in Florida — a place that will always remind me of you both.
